By winning, UH takes care of big picture
By RICHARD JUSTICE
There are millions of dollars to be raised and dazzling facilities to be built. Somewhere out there is a new and improved conference affiliation.
It’s dizzying to consider all that the University of Houston is attempting to do. These are exciting times on Cullen Boulevard. There are big plans, big dreams, and a feeling that UH is on the cusp of doing special things.
Did we mention the Heisman? One of those babies would look sweet in Case Keenum’s trophy case.
And here’s the amazing part. It all begins with winning football games. Not just winning a game or two, but winning them all.
Winning with a bit of flair wouldn’t hurt, either, especially the games ESPN is carrying. If the Cougars run the table, there’s a good chance doors will open, dollars will pour in and a new day will dawn for the school.

Nothing like putting a little extra on the head ball coach’s plate. Sure hope that’s a good third-and-7 play Kevin Sumlin has cooked up for Texas State on Saturday night at Robertson Stadium.
“What I’ve always said is that winning takes care of a lot of things,” Sumlin said. “Very few people need to deal with the big picture. We have administrators who do that.”
UH has had a spectacular season-ticket campaign. By Saturday’s kickoff, athletic director Mack Rhoades believes the total will be at 11,500, smashing what appears to be the previous record of 6,300.
